7 tips for keeping your backup online (cloud) Security

After you released the list of the best free online storage space for 2015, you've probably made your choices for a backup solution in the cloud. You are right. Personally, I think this is the best way to avoid losing data. Be careful though, there are some rules to follow to be free of problems. Here are 7 tips to keep your online backup (cloud) Security ...

  1.     Create a strong password: to keep your data safe on the Internet, it all starts with choosing a strong password. Forget your children's name or date of birth is screwed in advance! Looking for something that is not yours. Use uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols.
  2.     Register your password to you if you follow the first tip, you may go invent something unimaginable. Worse, perhaps you'll forget it! I invite you to leave a small post-it to you (in a warm place) you mark your password.
  3.     Do not use the same password as another online service you use: many people use the same password for multiple online services. But if anyone finds out, he can use it anywhere! Instead, enter something different for your online backup.
  4.     Set identification in two stages: some online backup services use two-step identification (Google, Dropbox, Evernote, etc.). This is more cumbersome but data is twice as safe!
  5.     Do not access your online backup from a public WiFi network: connection to a public Wi-Fi network is less trivial than it seems! Anyone can recover your password and your sessions.
  6.     Make backups offline: as says the phrase "prevention is better than cure". We are safe from anything and even if you do not get hack your account, your online backup service may have problems. It is therefore advisable to have another backup offline (on an external hard drive, USB drive, or others).
  7.     Do not fall into the trap of "phishing", or identity theft: it is common to receive fraudulent emails. They have only one goal: you steal your data! I know this seems obvious, but too many people still fall for it.
